Pharmacogenomics
What is Pharmacogenomics?
The Goal of Pharmacogenomics
Pharmacogenomics aims to help physicians and patients achieve effective courses of treatment that are tailored to an individual’s unique physiological needs. This means:
- Understanding the body’s needs better
- Anticipating the body’s responses to treatment (and coming up with contingencies as needed)
- Determining the most effective treatments in order to see favorable outcomes faster
Uniqueness Matters
Everyone is genetically unique, which means that everyone responds differently to medications and treatment plans. Drugs are never “one size fits all,” and by understanding a patient’s genetic needs, we’ll be able to move forward with medications that make sense for your body.
The Benefits of Pharmacogenomics
Pharmacogenomics helps us to eliminate one of the biggest pain points in patient care: trial and error. With this field of study, we don’t have to use a patient as an experimental tool with the hopes of finding the right medication. Instead, we’ll use their genetic information as a roadmap to the best course of action.
